If you're like me you're always looking for something to go and do, but we often overlook places that may feel overdone or touristy. Here's a quick look at some places around OKC that actually help make us the city that we are and shouldn't be forgotten.
1. Bricktown Ballpark
Tickets are $7 or $8 dollars and when the weather is nice there's not much better than sitting out on the grass and enjoying a hotdog and some beer.
2. The Capitol
If you haven't been out to see the capitol you should. Free guided tours are given on the hour throughout the week.
3. The Museum of Osteology
Skeletons are rad, so you should totally check this place out and it's only like $8!
4. The Governor's Mansion
I have fond memories of growing up and going to see the Governor's Mansion with my grandparents. I haven't been in YEARS, ( it was before our beloved Mary Fallin was in office) so it could have just been the allure of a grand building as a child, but it was fun!
5. Oklahoma City Museum of Art
Dinner and a movie? The art museum's got you taken care of. They have weird hours so make sure to check their website, but they also have super rad exhibits. It is the home of the world's largest Dale Chihuly glass work and recently hosted a Matisse exhibit, so that's cool.
6. The American Banjo Museum
Do you enjoy the fine art of this five-stringed instrument? Then this is your place! $8 admission to see over 400 instruments? I'm in.
This list could go on and on. We have places from the Civic Center to the Cowboy Hall of Fame that you should make sure to check out; sometimes it's just good to remember where our great state came from. Also, don't forget the zoo because baby animals. So, go be a tourist in your own city sometime. You might just have more fun than you'd think and you'll probably learn something new along the way.
Maybe next time I'll give you a list of my favorite coffee shops!
