8 Things You Realize When You're Single at a Wedding

Being single really isn't so bad, until you're at a wedding

When you're single, there are already so many things that remind you that you are alone. However, when you're single at a wedding, it can really make you think. Especially if there is an open bar, so you're just sitting, thinking, maybe crying, and realizing a few things.

1. You're single

An obvious realization, but in that moment, surrounded by so much lovey dovey stuff, it hits harder than usual. Depending on how many drinks you're at, you're either reminiscing about past relationships, or you're thinking about how you can possibly still be single. I am all about being by yourself and loving yourself above anyone else, but it being alone and realizing how alone you are sucks.

2. The concept of marriage is actually terrifying

As a child of divorce, listening to the promises a couple makes to each other during the ceremony is scary. When that couple is getting married, they are legitimately promising to no longer be independent entities. It's both beautiful and terrifying to think about at the same time.

3. "Single Ladies" makes it easy for guys to know you're single

When you're stag at a wedding and there are cute guys around, the bouquet toss is the greatest opportunity to show them that that you are single! No need to have the awkward encounter of figuring out if the other is single, let Beyoncé speak for you. So thanks, DJ for helping out the single peeps.

4. Other couples around you make you sick

Probably the worst part about weddings are the other couples besides the couple getting married. It's one thing to be happy for the couple getting married, but all of a sudden every other couple around you decides excessive PDA is necessary and acceptable. I GET IT YOU'RE "IN LOVE" TOO.

5. Open bars make things more bearable

After the ceremony, you've probably already found a fellow single person to basically be your drinking and dancing partner for the duration of the evening. If you didn't really know them that well before, thank goodness for open bars, because that person just became your best friend.

6.The bouquet toss is legit

Back to the bouquet toss, I'm not really 100% sure about what catching a bundle of flowers represents. But from my understanding, it's the part of the ceremony when the really desperate single people, or those in a relationship, are try really hard to hint to the others they are ready for a ring. After a few drinks, some of these ladies will actually throw elbows. It's insane.

7. Decoration details are amazing

Even though, it does kind of suck to be single at a wedding, you can't help but love all the little details that has gone into the decorations for the reception. The couple's faces and initials are some how on EVERYTHING, and that's pretty awesome

8. There is hope

The most important realization that hit me was that there is hope. Love is amazing and committing to one person for the rest of your life is a rare and beautiful thing nowadays. Even though I don't have anyone in my life right now, doesn't mean I'm not hopeful that I will find that someone. It might not be today, or even tomorrow, but it'll happen if I have hope.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
