Now, by adulting I mean I am living in a tiny apartment in a college town which is rented out by a company that scams college students all year. I live in this tiny apartment and share a bedroom with two other people. We're on the ground floor, level with the very loud college students who like to roam around in the middle of the night. We have a leaking air conditioner, chunks out of walls, broken shelves, and wobbly furniture. There are two closets for three girls, but we are making it work. This is my first apartment and the first time I have had to cook for myself, cleaned, done laundry, and everything in between. This is my first big step into freedom, and let me tell ya, it hasn't been the smoothest. Here's what I've learned so far:
1. Life's a scam, you just have to deal with it.
2. Make the most of a college apartment, decorations go a long way.
3. Doing dishes is honestly the worst.
4. BUT it's better to do them as you use them then let them stack up.
5. Sometimes getting out of bed is the hardest thing to do.
6. Making your bed in the morning can make you feel like you have your life together — even if you don't.
7. Be friends with your neighbors.
8. One call to the maintenance man will do absolutely nothing, call at least 6 times. Unfortunately, I'm serious.
9. Boiling water takes much longer than you'd think.
10. Cooking is somewhat terrifying but very rewarding.
11. You're gonna want to stock up on ice cream — the best food to stress-eat.
12. You actually have to buy toilet paper and paper towels, they don't just randomly show up... Weird.
13. People burn popcorn. The fire alarm goes off. You evacuate. The fire department comes. All because of popcorn.
14. Smoke travels through the walls, quickly and heavily. Gotta love the neighbors...
15. When in doubt, call Mom.
16. Groceries are outrageously expensive.
17. You're literally tired all the time.
18. Apparently the garbage doesn't take itself out either which is annoying.
19. Buy some microwavable meals.
20. Life's tough and it is what it is, so you just have to roll with it and make the most of what you have.
