Things You Know To Be True If You Have Old Fashioned Parents

Growing up with old fashioned parents is definitely a different experience to say the least. It can get frustrating at times but on the good side, they always keep you down to earth.

1. Most of your furniture is from an antique shop.

My parents absolutely in love with buying used furniture (I personally think it is gross) but they say it is more charming.

2. Every night is a family dinner in the Dining room.

Every single night, our family sits down for a family dinner around the table and nobody is allowed to leave until everyone is finished eating.

3. You're expected to have a job by age 14.

My parents had a job at 14, so I should too in their opinion.

4. You didn't have a cell phone until well into high school.

My parents believed that they were a waste of money and I could just borrow a friend's if it was an emergency. Forget about all the new iPhones too, I had a flip phone until I could afford a smart phone myself.

5. When growing up, you got spanked and had to stand in the corner as a punishment.

Again, it worked with them, so why not with us?

6. No Dating.

My parents are firm believers of not dating in middle and high school because it is distracting and to be honest, where is it really going?

7. When your friends wanted to hang out and the other parents called it a "play date," your parents laughed in their faces.

This was called "hanging out" and anything with the word "date" in it was considered romantic.

8. Your curfew was always hours before your other friends.

Your parents always told you to be home before dark, even if the party didn't start until 9 or 10 p.m.

9. You were used to corny phrases by the time you could remember words.

My parents still use "don't get your panties in a bunch," IN PUBLIC.

10. You couldn't hang out with a boy without them thinking you're dating.

Okay Mom and Dad, in today's age, boys and girls can be JUST FRIENDS.

11. Sushi?

The sentence I can always hear my dad saying is, "Why would you buy raw fish at a restaurant when you can buy it at the grocery store for a third of the price?"

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
