5 Things I Do For My Friends
The 16 Best Quotes from Sex and the City

As an only child I, obviously, did not grow up with siblings around. As I got older I started to cherish the friends I had. They were my siblings. Now at 27 years old there are five things that I will never stop doing as a sister friend.

1. I will never stop being affectionate with you

I will hug you when you are sad, and kiss your cheek when you are happy. I will hold your hand in scary moments and I will hold your hair back when you are sick.

2. I will always answer or acknowledge your phone call

If you call me I will respond. If I'm in a meeting and can't step out I will let you know I will call as soon as possible. If you call me at two in the morning I will answer my phone. I will step out of a restaurant, leave a movie theater, or pull over while I'm driving. You are important to me.

3. I will support you no matter what...

Want to date the bass player in a ska band? Hell yeah! I'll be in the front row with you. Want to get a degree in paranormal studies? I'll buy you your first EMF recorder. If you're happy I'm happy.

4. ...But I will talk to you about the pros and cons of it first

Does the bass player only ever want to do that? Does he think that it might be hard to make a career in the music field? How do you feel about groupies? What do the job prospects in paranormal studies look like? I want you to work at a job where you are happy but also can support yourself.

5. I will be there when you fall

Guy in the band broke your heart? I'll be there on your doorstep with cookies, movies and alcohol. Unexpectedly lose your job? I'm going to help you write that new resume. I'll let you be sad for a bit but then we are going to make a comeback plan.

My mother had a saying that went like this; "Friends are family that you choose. You don't HAVE To love them you WANT to love them." For me there is no truer statement. I have learned incredible lessons from them. I have flown to Tennessee to get a puppy, been a part of their wedding, watched them complete a Spartan Trifecta. They have been with me threw job changes, broken hearts and finding love, they will be there next to me when I say I do.

So, call your sister friend or friends. Tell them you love. Send them kissing emojis. Cherish the ones you choose to love.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
