Things To Do With Friends When You're On A Budget

Because every college student needs to avoid spending money.

Things To Do With Friends When You're On A Budget

My wallet is slim. The only time it seems that I have any spending money is after I babysit and in the winter months I only get a babysitting gig once in a blue moon. So, when I come home for the holidays and my friends are begging to do something fun, I freak out. How in the hell am I going to be able to afford all of the trips they want to make?

If you're in the same spot as me, I have a few things that are cheap and fun for you to do (without spending too much, or anything at all).

1. Drive somewhere.

The beach, a cute town nearby, a hiking trail. I love doing this and the pictures you can get from these trips are incredible. You never know what you're going to happen to find. There is so much to do, just hop on Google and figure a trip out.

Don't have a car?

2. Go bike riding!

This is a good one, but it's cold out right now so you'll probably have to save it for the spring/summer. Find a trail somewhere near you and break out your bike. In addition to having a great time, you'll also get in your daily workout.

3. Have a movie marathon.

This is often the most popular choice between all of my friends. We LOVE a good horror movie! If you need any suggestions, hit ya girl up.

4. Make dinner together.

Taco night is a good start. Have all of your friends come over with one of the ingredients and have a great time stuffing your face. Don't like tacos? Make pizza!! Classic college kid moves.

5. Bake cookies.

All the supplies cost money, but let's be real, your mom has it all lying around in your house. Look how beautiful that gif is. That could be the delicious dessert you and all of your friends enjoy after dinner.

6. Have a game night.

Dig out your old board games that you haven't played in years and play with your friends. You're guaranteed to have a blast, especially if you bring out Cards Against Humanity. Another good one is Whoonu, you get to see how well your friends know you and you'll also learn some new things about them.

7. Have a craft night.

Tell your friends to bring whatever it is that they'd like to paint and then you can all sit together, watch a movie, and paint together. Maybe paint for each other. It's a lot of fun and you get to pull out your creative side.

There are a ton of ways to have a good time without breaking the bank. This isn't all of them either. If you have any, share this with your favorite cheap activity to do with friends. I am up for anything that doesn't add to my debt.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
