Things We All Need To Remember About The New Semester.

Well, the first semester came and went. I am pretty confident that we can all agree it happened so fast. Now, I am not trying to push next semester on you, but it’s never a bad thing to start preparing early. We all have to go back to school, and it is super cold out, so why not skip class? Well here is some motivation/advice to start the new semester right and stay on track!

1. Just go to class. I am not going to sit here and lie. Yes, I have skipped class. Getting up early and just going to a class does not sound appealing: especially if it’s raining or is super windy. Your bed seems to call out “just 5 more minutes," that 5 minutes turns into an extra hour and then you miss your class. Most of the time, the more you skip class the worse your grade will be. I set my alarm about 15 minutes early, that way I can get to be lazy and still be on time.

2. Remember that all the late nights and the early mornings will be worth it. You get to have an education and study what you are interested in! Use this time to your advantage. The minute you get that degree or certificate or whatever you are going for, it will all be worth it. You can look back at something and think “Wow, I can’t believe I actually did it!”

3. Stay positive. Everyone tries to be perfect and get perfect grades: something I learned that is very unlikely. I do the best I can in all my classes. Some classes come easier to me, while others are a pure pain (chemistry and math), but those are the classes that I need to work just a little harder in. If you get a bad grade on an assignment or a quiz, it’s honestly not the end of the world. You either can try just a little bit harder next time, or find a better solution to get the grade you want. Everything happens for a reason!

4. You are responsible for your own future! Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. There will always be negative people in the world. They might try and distract you, or they might make you feel like you can’t accomplish your goals. There is one thing you and I both know, and that is that you can!

5. Homesickness. I am from the far planet called “Idaho." Seriously though, I got home sick a lot. It’s not like I can just drive home every weekend, but I know that my family will always be there for me. I often called my family three or four times a day! So, if you ever get homesick like I did, just make a quick call home. I also try and stay busy and hang out with some friends to get my mind off it.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
