It’s crazy to see how fast life seems to fly by. I never really pictured being where I am today, or pictured myself being the person I turned out to be. Over the past eighteen years, I have mentioned things I’ve wanted to do, which never actually happened. I’m getting to the point where time seems to speed by, and I’m seeing life pass me by as I look in the rear view mirror. I’ve never created a bucket list before, so I think it’s time I do. Here are the things I want to do before I die.

  1. Swim with dolphins. I have always dreamed of being able to swim with dolphins like in the movie Aquamarine. It seems like it would be extremely exciting to be up close and personal, and being an animal lover is just a plus.
  2. Jump out of an airplane. I know, call me crazy. I love the adrenaline, and the thought of dropping hundreds of feet seems too crazy to pass up. I know it’s risky, but being able to say I jumped out of a plane seems badass.
  3. Become a nurse. I’ve been working towards this goal for years now, and I want to be able to say I’m a Registered Nurse (RN). The medical field has so many doors of opportunity just waiting to be opened. I can’t wait till the day I get to turn the knob and move forward.
  4. Save a life. I want to do something so special, which is save someone’s life in one way or another. Whether it be an organ donation, getting an addict the help they need, pushing someone out of the way of a moving car, or convincing someone that life is worth living.
  5. Learn how to play guitar. I used to play the violin and trumpet growing up. I tried to teach myself how to play a guitar years ago but I was awful at it. Maybe with time, this will become easier!
  6. Travel to different countries. I want to experience new cultures, customs, and environments. I want to be able to leave the United States for the first time in my life, and maybe even learn a second language. This world is an endless adventure, and I want to take advantage of that.
  7. Volunteer at a children’s hospital and spend time with sick children. I can only imagine how lonely and bored kids that are staying in hospitals must get. I’m sure the kids would love to have company, and it would mean so much to me to give back. Volunteering has always been one of my favorite extra-curricular activities to do, and this was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
  8. Meet Chris Daughtry. My absolute favorite person, and I haven’t even met him yet. His music saved me in so many ways. His lyrics got me through the worst depression of my life and boosted my already happy mood as well. He’s such a big role model to me, but he never tours anymore… so this will have to wait a while.
  9. Drive a Range Rover. An all blacked out Range Rover with black rims and red interior would be my absolute dream come true. My second choice would be a new G-Wagon. You would have to pry me out of the car because I wouldn’t want to get out of the driver’s seat afterward lol.
  10. I want to have something go viral. I would love to have something go viral and have that 'moment of spotlight,' so I can feel famous (even though I’m clearly not). I just hope whatever goes viral isn’t embarrassing!
  11. Kiss someone under a mistletoe. It’s corny, but it’s the perfect 'movie moment.' I love Christmas time, and the scenery is perfect for a moment under the mistletoe.
  12. Sing for a big crowd. I used to sing in chorus for years, but once I got to high school they didn’t offer it so my confidence faded. My voice changed and I just couldn’t hit certain notes by the time I reached senior year. I hope to keep practicing and one day be able to sing for a big crowd.
  13. Own a dog. My childhood was too unstable to have a full commitment to a dog, but I can’t wait until I have my own house and can adopt a dog and treat him/her like my other half. I’ve always admired people’s relationships to their dogs, and I can’t wait to build that bond with my own one day.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
