10 Things To Keep You Sane During Quarantine

We're all going a little crazy cooped up in our houses. Here's how I manage to not go insane.

If someone would have told me three months ago I would be writing articles for Odyssey in my bed at home and not like usual, in my bed in my apartment at school, I would laugh.

If I were to be told my friends, family, and just about everyone I know would be confined to their house for what seems like forever, I would laugh.

But here we are, and there's nothing we can do about the circumstances. But we can handle how we deal with the situation.

As much as I'd rather be spending the remainder of my spring semester at school with my friends, I'm a little glad I'm being forced to hang out with my family. Believe it or not, they're actually kind of fun. This quarantine has definitely made me appreciate the family I have.

But regardless of if you're enjoying this time with your family or ready to run away, this morning routine has things that can be done alone. I find most of these activities are actually more rewarding, and I feel much more content with myself when I do it alone.

1. Make a fun breakfast.

I've been making smoothie bowls, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, and just about anything interesting I can find on Tik Tok.

2. Make coffee or another fun drink.

I tried the "Greek Whipped Coffee" trend on Tik Tok and I am so obsessed with it. All you do is take a tablespoon of instant coffee, a tablespoon of sugar, and a tablespoon of hot water, and you blend with a hand mixer until it gets thick and forms stiff peaks.

I add almond milk and a little creamer to this. Delicious.

3. Binge watch a new show.

I have been super into "Westworld" on Hulu and "On My Block" on Netflix. This is the absolute perfect time to start a show considering the amount of free time we all have.

4. Exercise.

We may not be able to go to the gym, but that doesn't mean you can't exercise. Go outside for a run. I have been trying to either run or watch an at-home workout video on YouTube every day. It's very easy to slip into a lazy pattern being cooped up at home for so long.

5. Make a meal.

Last night, I made tacos for my family and it definitely killed a lot of time and was very rewarding. I made guacamole for the side.

For my guac, I chop up two Hass avocados, a tiny bit of minced garlic, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, a spoonful of hot salsa, salt, pepper, lime juice, and cayenne pepper. So good.

6. Start a home project.

Even if it is something as small as cleaning out your closet, it will make you feel super productive and kill a lot of free time.

7. Access your inner creativity.

Write, draw, dance, sing, do anything that gets your creative juices flowing. I try to write in a journal every day before I go to sleep to make sure I'm using my brain a little bit and not just staring at Tik Tok for hours.

8. DIY your clothes.

Crop t-shirts, bleach sweatpants, or cut up your old jeans. You might not have anywhere to wear them to yet, but when this quarantine is over, at least you'll have a new wardrobe.

9. Read a book.

When things get stressful in life, I have an extremely difficult time falling asleep. Reading before bed definitely helps wind me down and relax me. I've been reading Shirley Jackson's short stories before bed.

10. Facetime some friends.

While it's nice to have some alone time, reach out to your friends as often as you can. We're all going through this together, so it's important to have each other's backs through this hard time.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
