7 Things To Try This Summer When You Have Nothing Else To Do

Usually, during summer, people think about heading to the beach or lounging by the pool all day. Others may think about going to amusement parks or county fairs. While all of the above are exciting and fun events to experience during the summer time, this season is meant for new adventures and new discoveries. Here are a few new things to try this summer.

1. Create popsicles.

My favorite memory as a kid was eating popsicles after a few hours of playing in the sprinkler outside. Here is a yummy and easy popsicle recipe to try this summer. This recipe is simple, all it calls for is root beer and vanilla ice cream. Put a little bit of rootbeer in the popsicle mold, add some ice cream, then top it with more root beer. Place in the freezer until frozen and enjoy!

2. Make decorative flower pots.

During the summer, Pinterest will become your best friend. Go out and buy some clay flower pots from your local craft store. Get some paint and any other supplies, and get to work! Its a good way to be creative, and its always nice to give a handmade present to a friend.

3. Go camping.

Besides having to deal with mosquitoes, camping is one of my favorite things to do. Being able to spend a few nights in mother nature is a great way to get away from the stresses of the real world. I highly enjoy cooking hot dogs over a nice fire while the stars are bright in the sky. And being able to wake up in the morning to the smell of bacon and campfire coffee is one of my favorite things in the world (besides puppies of course).

4. Outdoor movie night.

To be honest, I have had one of these, and it was awesome. Grab some blankets, a few pillows, popcorn, a good film and you will be set for hours. But also make sure you have bug spray for obvious reasons.

5. Read in a hammock.

This summer I am greatly looking forward to opening a good book and reading it, or re-reading a series I haven't read in awhile (like "The Hunger Games", which I am currently watching on TV and missing the book series immensely). Nothing is more relaxing than reading outdoors and hearing the chirp of the birds above. And in a hammock? See you in a few hours!

6. Geocache.

I have personally never done this myself, but I do know people who have and they said it is something you have to experience at least once in your life. If you go to geocaching.com/play you can find out about treasure hunts in your area.

7. Play board games.

It's summer, and if you live in Florida like me, thunderstorms are a daily afternoon event. Pull out an old board game, get away from your phones, and spend some quality time with your loved ones.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
