During the past summer, my high school/Puente teacher asked me along with other Puentistas to be a part of an alumni panel. High school students asked us questions about college or basically any questions concerning living the adult life. There were a lot of alumni, so there was tons of advice given. A lot of it was great advice that I will certainly remember and apply when school starts. So, here are some things to remember when YOU go back to school.

1. Mistakes happen; just don’t let them happen often.

We are only human. We mess up from time to time. However, the failure does not define who you are. If you don’t do well on a test, it is not the end of the world. Just make sure you study even harder for the next one. Do not dwell on it because overthinking on what you did wrong will not fix anything. This is not an excuse to skip studying to play video games or watch another episode of the TV show, "Insecure". Study first then you can relax.

2. Time management is your new best friend.

Most of us are professional procrastinators. We find ourselves pulling our hair out while finishing homework or an essay the night before it’s due way too often. Instead, make sure you write down the due date and start working on the assignment for a good 20 minutes each day. By the time it’s due, you would have already completed most of it.

3. Make time for yourself.

It’s really easy to drown yourself in your studies. Your school activities can become overwhelming at times. It’s important to take some time out of your day and treat yourself. Take an hour to nap, watch Netflix or go buy some frozen yogurt. Do something that makes you happy. This way school doesn’t seem so hectic and make you crazy.

Hopefully, this article will help make your school year less stressful and more enjoyable as well as productive. Good luck in school!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
