7 Things To Make Your Stay-cation The Best You’ve Ever Had

Staying home during spring break isn’t as lame as it sounds

Spring break is upon us. Some of you may be traveling far and wide and having the time of your life doing it. I’m so excited for you! However, the rest of us are just staying home, which honestly is fine by me. Stay-cations are some of the best vacations out there. Here are some things to keep in mind during your well-deserved break:

1. Actually, relax

Sometimes we take breaks from school just to replace them with a billion other things like work, internship applications, and other stress-filled tasks. While doing all of that try to remember to actually give yourself a break. We all need a breather from time to time.

2. Pet your dog

I’m sure I don’t even have to tell you to do this because come on. Dogs. But still, take the time to actually love on your pup. They’ve probably been wondering where you went after Christmas. This goes for cats, rabbits, birds, etc. as well. If you don’t have a pet then either find one or just hug your mom. Spread some love.

3. Read, paint, game, etc.

Whatever your favorite hobby is, do it. Don’t have a hobby? Start something new. Dedicate a whole day to it because you want to and you can. Go crazy and don’t feel bad about it. You time is therapeutic.

4. Eat all of the foods

You know your favorite coffee shop from home? Go to it. You know that REALLY good Mexican place across town? Have dinner there. You know the bagel place that always has a line down the sidewalk? Stand in line and get that bagel. Treat yourself to all your favorite foods from home. You deserve to eat something other than food that’s been sitting in a steam tray for god only knows how long.

5. Visit with friends

After high school, everyone went to different schools and so you only see them when you’re home. Make sure you catch up by actually talking face to face rather than just a text here and there. Go for a hike (if it’s not -12 degrees), see a movie, go shopping. You can even eat all of the foods with them. It’s a win-win for everyone.

6. Go grocery shopping with your mom

I don’t know about you but errands with mom are the bomb. Take a few hours, grab some lunch, go to the store. She’ll probably appreciate the time with you as well. Maybe you can even invite dad too if he promises to behave in the store and not take 10 HOURS to shop. (Hi Dad) :)

7. Sleep

One of the most important things on this list. You don’t have an 8 am. You don’t have assignments due at midnight. Just sleep. Sleep a lot. Savor it.

Breaks always go by so fast and next thing you know it, you’re making the drive back to campus. Make sure you don’t forget to enjoy your break and actually give yourself a BREAK. Happy spring break everyone!!

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
