Even though the spring semester has nearly drawn to a close, the last few steps to the finish line can feel like an entire marathon. With finals and papers and more exams than anyone wants to count looming in the near future, it's almost as though the semester may never end.

Fortunately, the relief from the stress of the school year is almost upon us, coming in the form of summer. So when it feels like the semester will never end, here are some things to look forward to in the summer months.

1. The Beach

To me, this is the most important part of the summer. While nice in the winter, the full experience of the beach can only be truly enjoyed in the warm weather. Nothing could possibly scream summer more than the sand between your toes and the sound of the waves crashing as you sit on a beach chair and sipping on lemonade.

2. Not Worrying About Schoolwork

There's plenty of other things to worry about when school's out, but there's no stressing over whether you got that essay in on time or if you studied enough for a test, and that is a wonderful feeling.

3. The Sun

Is it just me, or has the sun been MIA lately? I'm hoping it'll make its reappearance in the coming months, and while we are on the subject...

4. Sunsets!

I love sunsets. The best sunsets are summer sunsets. They happen at eight o'clock at night, and the sky turns pink. I cannot wait until I get to peacefully watch the sunset after a long summer day.

5. Barbeques

Barbecues are the best, without question. Corn on the cob, burgers, hot dogs; they're all better in the warmer weather.

6. S'mores

S'mores and campfires are an inherently summer activity. While fun in the other months, the full effect can only be achieved late during summer nights.

7. Warm Weather

This past winter had been lacking in it's nice weather, and so far spring has been off to the same start. Hopefully summer pulls through, and grants us some nice weather that can be enjoyed outside.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
