Things To Know Before Fostering

Many people want to help children in need and fostering is a great way to fulfill that desire. There are numerous awarding accomplishments that come along with fostering children but it is not all sunshine and rainbows majority of the time. It is a very tough and straining job that only a certain type of person can accomplish, I mean well of course. Here are some things to consider before signing up for the job.

1. IT IS NOT A JOB!!!

Many foster parents do this for the money they receive for occupying the children in their home. If this is your intentions, please stop reading this and do not ever consider to foster a child again. Or even better make the thought erase any ounce of the thought from your memory.

2. Remember that these children become your family the second they enter your establishment.

They are not your problem or even just your priority, they are your child until they say their last goodbyes.

3. Since we are on the note of the children being your family, remember that you will get attached to many children.

Sadly, you cannot keep all of them so prepare your hearts for the loss of the children in your homes.

4. Many of the kids have psychological problems, and when I say many I mean MANY.

Problems like anxiety, depression, bipolar, and attachment disorders. These children have been through many traumatic events and this has affected them greatly. They need your guidance and love, not medication jammed down their throat. They need your guidance and love, not medication jammed down their throats.

5. Biological families, some you will love and some you will heat greatly.

The main thing to remember that they are still the children’s family. So, remember not to speak down about their families even if they do themselves.

6. These children are not for you to hurt in any shape or form.

They are not your property. So do not beat or starve them.

7. Most of all remember this is a hard thing to do but it is very awarding at the same time.

Keep your mind sharp and your heart open and you will succeed.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
