Things To Expect When You Take Shrek To Formal

Why bring just anyone to formal when you could bring Shrek?

For those in Greek life across the country, formal (or semi-formal) season is upon us. For those lucky enough to have a significant other, they don't have to agonize who to take. Those of us living the single life however, have some decisions to make. That got me thinking... What would happen if someone took America's favorite ogre to formal? Here's a few things to expect if you took Shrek to your next formal event.

1. He would expand your palate.

Shrek definitely knows how to eat. He also isn't the type of guy to stick to a burger and fries. You can bet that if he was your formal date, he would take you to some adventurous restaurant beforehand.

2. No one would mess with you.

Not that there should be anyone messing with you at formal, but no one would mess with Shrek, so, therefore, no one would mess with you. It's a win-win.

3. Him and his wingman would be the funniest guys in your group.

You'll be entertained all night! No more sitting in semi-silence

4. He wouldn’t judge the weird things you and your friends do.

Shrek knows weird. Shrek embraces weird. You wouldn't have to be worried about how he would respond if

5. You two would tear up the dance floor.

Dance like nobody's watching is Shrek's motto, and you can bet as soon as the lights go down and "Uptown Funk" starts playing, you two will be rocking your cheesiest moves.

6. He would carry you when your feet hurt.

Heels are no joke, and after a couple hours of taking pictures and dancing, you aren't going to want to actually walk to your car. Shrek would have no problem picking you up.

7. Through his tough exterior, he would care about your feelings.

Shrek is one caring ogre. He would notice if you were feeling down because of a fight with a friend or getting a bad grade. He wouldn't ignore it like most guys. Instead he would talk to you and try to make you feel better.

8. You would learn so much about him because he has layers.

Don't judge him by his plaid pants and stained tunic! So what if some guys don't know how to dress... or have green ears. Behind his rough exterior, you'll find that he has a heart of gold.

9. He would always treat you like a princess.

Honestly, at formal you want to be treated like the special gal you are. He'll be a gentleman, but still be insanely funny and real. That's exactly what you want!

10. At the end of the night, you’ll want to take him to every date function.

Your friends will have given him the stamp of approval, and you will all have a blast together. He'll know your awesome sisters, and now whenever you have a date function, you'll know exactly who to call. With Shrek, you'll never want formal to be ogre.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
