7 Things To Do While In Melbourne

I recently visited Australia with a group from the University of Cincinnati. I took a class during my fall semester of 2016 called Sport & Multiculturalism. We discussed topics involved in sports around the world, often involving politics, religion, and other global topics. We visited Melbourne in Victoria, Australia and had many activities planned but also a lot of free time. So, here are seven things to do while in Melbourne, Australia.

1. Eureka Skydeck

The Eureka Skydeck is a beautiful site that is a must on your to do list. The Eureka building is the tallest building in Melbourne and at eighty-eight floors, you can see the whole city. Whether you decide to go during the day, or as the sun is setting, it will be an image you will not forget.

2. Ride the Melbourne Star

The Melbourne Star is a giant ferris wheel in the Docklands area of Melbourne. The ferris wheel is one hundred and twenty meters tall. It has beautiful views of the entire city and is a great way to see the entirety of the skyline.

3. See a Street Performer

Melbourne is full of street performers and they are very important to the city's culture. It's a necessity to see a street performer whether it be a human statue, a musician, a magician, a sword swallower, or a didgeridoo player. They are so entertaining and often attract a big crowd.

4. Go to Federation Square

Federation Square is a mixed area inside of Melbourne with many different purposes. The architecture is very modern and very beautiful. It's a great place to go during the day to eat or just take a walk. It's also beautiful at night when they often have light shows and other fun activities.

5. Find Street Art

Melbourne is very well known for its beautiful street art or as many of us call it, graffiti. Street art is legal on most walls in Melbourne, including many alley-ways. You can find street art almost anywhere but it's fun to see what different images you can find throughout the city.

6. Take a Ghost Tour

A ghost tour at the Old Melbourne Gaol is something you'll never forget. This jail has plenty of stories to go along with it. You might not sleep for a while and be scared for the rest of the trip but the history and the excitement will be worth it.

7. Visit Phillip Island

Phillip Island is about two hours away from Melbourne; however, the trip is definitely worth it. You can go to the beautiful beaches on the island, which have beautiful waves and soft sands. There are also many excursions you can take depending on what you're interested in. One main attraction is the Penguin Parade which is at night. You could see hundreds of penguins walk on the shore from the ocean and travel up to the nests on the sands. It's a beautiful view and one you'll always remember.
As you can see from the many things there is to do, Melbourne is a great city to visit. I highly recommend all these things to do while in Melbourne to make your trip more memorable and more enjoyable. If you someday decide to visit there, I hope you love it as much as I did.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
