5 Things To Do When Visiting Cuba

When I visited Cuba this summer, it felt like time stood still. In this beautiful, rustic city, there are so many things to do and see. Here are some of the things I recommend all tourists in Cuba should do (with pictures from my experience attached).

1. Have a drink at the El Floridita

The El Floridita was home to Ernest Hemingway’s favorite daiquiris (hence his signature on the far right of the building). Since then, people have traveled from lo and beyond to enjoy the famous Floridita daiquiris while listening to live singers.

2. Take a ride through Old Havana in a car from the 1900s

One of the most unique things about Cuba are the cars from the 1940s and 1950s that are regularly driven. Driving through Old Havana in a vibrantly colored car with the top down and Cuban music, well, that's the dream.

3. Smoke A Cuban Cigar

This one is a given, but when you go to Cuba, you HAVE to smoke a Cuban cigar. Even if you don't know how, the friendly locals will be more than willing to show you the Cuban way to smoke.

4. Watch the sunset while parked by the beach

Watching the sun slowly sink down into the horizon over the beautiful blue ocean in Cuba is a memory I will never forget. Easily one of the most breathtaking sunsets I have ever seen, I would definitely recommend viewing a sunset during your trip to Cuba.

5. Take a stroll around La Havana's busy streets

Walk among the bustling people, stop at the street vendors, look around at the vibrant buildings, and just take in your surroundings.

Cuba has such a rich culture, and the only way to appreciate every aspect of it is to immerse yourself in it.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
