Everyone has those days where it seems like every little thing is going wrong.
You had a nightmare, which stemmed to you failing a test or quiz, which led to your best friend getting angry at you, which led to your package not arriving, even though it clearly said it should have been in your mailbox last night. One thing leads to another and your mood is a permanent state of suck for the day, and it seems like nobody even cares enough to try to brighten it up a bit. You just want to go to your room, turn on some Netflix and sleep the pain away...it'll all be better in the morning, right?
We've all been there before. But sometimes, even Netflix doesn't heal the ache of your day. Well, in the meantime, here are some ways you can *hopefully* brighten your day up on your own.
1. Music
There's nothing more that cheers me up enough to get things done than music. But do not listen to sad music...it will make you feel worse. Trust me on this. Listen to something more upbeat and cheerful, or something lyrically inspiring.
2. Candles/incense
Considering your living situation, lighting candles or burning incense may be prohibited... But, well, the fragrance is soul soothing and mind easing. It will---literally---brighten your day.
3. Exercise
I, for one, don't like exercising even when I'm having a good day much less a terrible, no good, very bad day. But perhaps, you may be one of those people who enjoys exercise...and if that's what makes your day just that much better, then by all means go for a run or a lift.
4. SLEEP!
I'm a firm believer that sleeping off the pain of today will bring forth a better tomorrow. Unless more nightmares or unpleasant dreams occur, it's a good way to let your body recuperate and let your mind rest. Naps are good for the soul and your well being as a whole.
5. Hobbies
Bad day? Fix it by doing one of your favourite hobbies. Paint a work of art, draw, play video games, practice your musical instrument, write; do whatever you're good at. If it's something you enjoy doing, then that means you find peace within it. Find that state of peacefulness, it will help calm you down and get your through the rest of the day.
6. Walking
Not to be confused with "exercising" per se, walking is more lax than jogging, lifting, or doing calisthenics. Personally, when I have a terrible day, I like to take a walk alone to wherever my legs decide to take me that day; whether it be to the playground across town or the Japanese gardens down the road. There is nothing like taking a walk to clear your head.
7. Talking
Even though it seems as though the world---and everyone else for that matter---is against you, sometimes it really does help to talk to someone. Maybe it's your best friend, your significant other, your parents, a professor, or even just some random at Walmart who asked how your day was, talk to them. Sometimes listening is all we need, but, who knows, maybe they'll say something that will actually help you feel better.
8. FOOD!
Food is good for the soul. Especially sweets. It always makes the situation just a tiny bit better. My go-to is definitely a classic chocolate Frosty from Wendy's with french fries. It doesn't make it completely better, but it does help. Gotta love comfort food.
And if none of those work for you, then by all means return to Netflix and binge watch a new series or your favorite movie with some snacks. Bad days suck, but who says that we can't try to fix it? Things will get better in time, sometimes they work themselves out on their own, but sometimes we have to take matters into our own hands. No matter how bad your day is, it can always be turned around. You totally got this. Keep your head up and kick that bad day's ass.
