School is officially out! Do you know what that means? A lot to do in not a lot of time. There are a lot of different things I want to do before August 24th rolls around. Here's a list of some of them!

1. Travel to Europe

Fortunately, I'm thankful to announce that this first activity on my list will be a reality in a very short couple of weeks. I will be traveling to London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Sorrento, and Capri!

2. Go on a hike

To me, there's nothing better than enjoying the sublimity and natural beauty that nature has to offer. I can't remember the last time I've gone on a hike, so I think Summer 2017 is the time to do it!

3. Go star gazing

For as much as I spend my time outside every summer, it's not often that I find myself relaxing and simply enjoying the night sky. For this reason, star gazing is definitely on my list as a must for this summer.

4. Watch a sunrise

Although waking up early isn't necessarily my strong suit, it's totally worth the beauty of a sunrise. I guess I'll have to be setting my alarm early, but hey, at least I'll get a good Instagram photo.

5. Watch a sunset

What comes up must eventually come down. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

6. Run

Yes, I am one of those people that likes to run for fun. Not only is it a stress reliever, but it's a great way to enjoy some beautiful scenery. Whether it's a run on the beach, a run around the lake, or a run around my own neighborhood, I hope to run on a regular basis this summer. Better start avoiding the infamous "Freshman 15" now.

7. Do my own laundry

For those of you who have read my "adulting" article, you'd know that this article on my list is going to be quite a struggle. Mom, your seventeen years of doing my laundry are (kind of) over. Separating lights from darks, knowing how long to wash things, knowing how to use a dryer: these are all questions that I hope to have answered before stepping foot on a college campus. Let my journey to adulthood begin!

8. Read a lot of books

I've read more books and readings than I can count throughout the school year, but I can't remember the last time I read a book for fun. I love reading, and summer is a great time to read some good ones. (Please comment any suggestions!)

9. Get a haircut

For as minuscule as this item on my list sounds, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in desperate need of a haircut. The long curly hair is great and all until I spend 30 minutes trying to brush it. Maybe some long layers, or maybe something totally different; either way, I am in need of something new. New school, new me I guess?

10. Go down The Shore

For those of my fellow readers that aren't from Jersey, yes, this means "going to the beach." What's good about living in Jersey if you don't go down the shore? I'm looking forward to spending some time down the shore with my family for my last summer before college. I've been going there since I was little, but each time, the boardwalk, fried Oreos, and beaches never seem to get old.

While there is surely some other things I want to experience this summer, the ten on this list are most definitely a good start. I've got a good feeling that Summer 2017 is going to be the best one yet.

However, we all know that the holidays have overall changed a little from what they used to be.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
