6 Things To Do Over Winter Break

How to spend that precious time between semesters.

So, you have finished your first semester and have approximately a month of free time. What should you do with it? You could be productive and start getting ready for the next semester or even do an internship if you must, but here are some other, more relaxing things, you could be doing.

1. Read a Book (For Fun)

I don't know about you, but I find it extremely hard to read anything other than the required texts during college.I get tired of reading and don't have any energy to read for pleasure, which is sad. Take this time to either read one of those books that have been sitting on your shelf for years or finding a new book to read. It doesn't even have to be a long book. Maybe try some poetry or short stories if you don't have the time for a full-length novel.

2. Reconnect with Friends

If you are like me and don't see your old friends that often since you started college this is usually a good time to make plans as you are most likely all in the same area for the first time in a while! Maybe you can go out for a meal, or watch a movie, or get together and play board games, or go to a party if that is your scene.

3. Spend time with Family

This is usually a given since winter break coincides with Christmas, but if you have the opportunity, you definitely should spend some quality time with your family, whoever that may be. You've probably spent enough time away from them to miss them as well, and hopefully, you don't start arguing at least until the end of winter break.

4.Enjoy some Winter Time Activities

Now is the time to enjoy some things you can only do in winter, at least in cold areas. These include things like ice skating, sledding, snowman building and snowball fights. Hopefully, there will be enough snow at least one of the days of winter break for you to accomplish some of these activities. I've always enjoyed ice skating so I will vouch for that one and there are quite a few ice rinks in our area if anyone is interested.

5. Pursue a Hobby

Maybe you have a hobby like drawing, knitting, or anything else you can think of that got pushed to the side during the fall semester. Take this time to get back into it. Maybe make a few things or just enjoy yourself. It's a great way to relax and unwind after a long, tiring semester.

6.Netflix Binge

Last but not least, what I assume is most people's favorite, the Netflix binge. Get caught up on that t.v show you've fallen behind on or even start a new one. Watch a billion terrible comedies to make you laugh or watch a sad drama where a dog dies if you need to cry a bit. Either way get comfortable in your bed, make a snack stockpile and you are ready to go!

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
