15 Things to Do Over the Summer

15 Things to Do Over the Summer

1. Go to a lake or the beach.

The best way to detox after a long year is to spend a few days in the sun and in water. Take some friends or a significant other for a weekend trip to a lake or a beach and soak up some sun, returning home with a nice tan and stress-free mind.

2. Try a new restaurant.

There are so many restaurants that people talk about throughout the school year. The summer time is the best time to test out those restaurants. You’re able to sit outside and enjoy the outdoors while eating some great food.

3. Go hiking.

Want to maintain that beach bod without going to the gym? Look up great hiking spots in your area and spend the day outdoors. Some spots contain rivers where you can cool off after the hike, which is the best feeling after sweating the whole time. Also get a great photo at the top of the hike.

4. Go to a concert or music festival.

After a long week of commuting to and from your office, spend your Saturday surrounded by music lovers and happiness by attending a concert. Even if you don’t know all of the songs the performer sings, just being in the “music festival” atmosphere will be worth it.

5. Go on a road trip.

Take some of your closest friends on a road trip. This is a great time to make memories and gossip with the people you are not able to see everyday while you’re at school

6. Go to a professional baseball game.

Even if you don’t like baseball, attending a game and trying to understand the logistics behind it is a great way to unwind during the week. Baseball fans are very passionate about the sport and who could complain about nice weather and beer while watching a game?

7. Go mini golfing.

Suggest to your family to go on a mini golf adventure and show off your putting skills. You’ll have a great time with your family and can brag to them about how good you are at golf.

8. Host a barbecue.

Invite all of your friends over for some corn hole, hot dogs, and hamburgers on a nice afternoon in the sun. Bond with your friends while drinking beers and engaging in some friendly competition.

9. Go to a zoo or a national park.

Go see some adorable animals with a significant other on a beautiful summer day. During the school year, you’re not able to travel into the city to go to the zoo or a national park, so use your free time to “ooh” and “ah” over the cute animals.

10. Travel to visit extended family.

The summer time is a great time to catch up with family members who do not necessarily live close to you. In the summer, your family can plan a few days to bond and play games together in order to reconnect in the sun.

11. Attend or run in a marathon.

Whether its supporting a friend who is running or you running yourself, attending a marathon in your area is a great way to spend your morning. Starting the day off in the sun will make your day positive and enlightening regardless of if you run in the marathon or just watch.

12. Go to an amusement park.

Spend the day or the weekend riding roller coasters and eating cotton candy on a nice, sunny day. Whether it’s a water or amusement park, everyone will have a good time.

13. Go on a camping trip.

There is no better way to “be one with nature” than to spend the night outdoors staring at the stars. Whether you take friends or a significant other, everyone will be able to connect with the great outdoors.

14. Go fishing.

Drive a boat out into the open water and go fishing. Eat some very fresh seafood or throw the fish back into the water, but this activity will be fun for all ages.

15. Spend as much time with your friends and loved ones.

When you’re at school during the year, you’re unable to see your friends back home as often as you like. Spend your summer reconnecting with your friends from home and with the people who has supported you for forever. You’ll have an amazing summer.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
