Every once in a while, we all get into those moods where we just feel a little down. Sometimes there's a specific reason for it, but other times, we aren't able to pinpoint exactly what's on our minds. It's always healthy and necessary to allow ourselves to feel sad for a while, but eventually we have to snap out of it, and the only person who can help you do that is yourself. Here is a list of things to do to lift yourself up when you're feeling down.

Change your hairstyle

Nothing can help change your mood like changing your look. A new hairstyle can give you more confidence, as well as something to smile about every time you glance at a mirror. Whether you just want to trim the dead ends off or go for a completely different hue, seeing a different you every time you look in the mirror is sure to help change your perspective.

Indulge in a spa day

While it's great to go out and get a manicure or pedicure, you can pamper yourself at home as well! Pick up a new shade at CVS and paint your nails yourself, or take a bubble bath with extra bubbles.

Listen to music

Everyone has that one go-to song or genre that puts them in a better mood. Listen to the songs that make you feel good, whether it be 2000s throwbacks, songs that remind you of summer, or one of your favorite artists.

Get some exercise

Endorphins are real, people! You may not be in the mood to kill it at the gym when you're feeling sad, but if you can drag your butt out of bed and throw on some sneakers, you'll be guaranteed to feel better. Even if you just go for a 20 minute walk, getting moving helps.

Spend time with your pet

Sometimes we forget to pay attention to the ones who can teach us the most about being happy. A furry hug can fix more than you think.

Create something

Feeling accomplished is an important part of being happy. Bake something, paint something, or go on Pinterest and look for more creative ideas. A new creation will give you something to put your energy towards, and

Do something to better yourself

Work on your resume, clean up that mess in the corner you've been intentionally avoiding all week, or start that book thats been on your reading list for months. Doing something that benefits you is a great way to get back in touch with yourself. If you're in need of a small reminder that you should be making yourself a priority, this is it!

Whether you know why you're feeling down or not, there comes a time when you need to snap yourself out of a bad mood. Doing a couple activities off this list is sure to help cheer you up and remember that there's plenty to be happy about, even on sad days.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
