Although I was born in Hattiesburg and currently reside here for college, Jackson, MS has been my home for almost ten years- and I love it. While many plan to escape Mississippi as soon as they can, I love Jackson and its rich history and growth. Some people claim they want to get out due to boredom, but there are plenty of things to do if you just go out and do them. Today, my sorority big sister and I spent the afternoon wandering, and I felt the need to share with you all just a few of my favorite places in Jackson.
Sneaky Beans
Ever since the seventh grade, this has been my go to coffee shop. Every single Wednesday for two years I had a half white chocolate/half dark chocolate hot chocolate (I don't even know if it's on the menu) and a banana nut muffin for breakfast. They also have live music a lot, which is an added bonus if you're ever bored and want to get out of the house.
The Planetarium
Everyone loves a good planetarium, and I feel like the Jackson one is so overrated! Find a day to just go hang out and watch some stars, people (do planetariums remind anyone of Freaks and Geeks?!).
The Mississippi Museum of Art
This is my personal favorite of all favorites! On a hot day I like to just walk around inside the museum and really pay some appreciation to some great works that have come from Mississippi natives. There is also a beautiful garden that my big and I enjoyed walking through and taking pictures with outside pieces!
Campbell's Bakery
This is a local's favorite. Literally the best sweets. It can't and won't get better.
Treehouse Boutique
I always exit this place with an empty wallet but a really excited closet. Be prepared to spend some cash on some items that are VERY worth it.
Laurel Street Park
Everyone grew up playing in this park. Even I still come to this park on a pretty day. There's just nothing like spinning on a tire swing on a breezy day.
