7 Things To Pass The Time When You're Bored In Class

In This Article:

For college kids, making it look like you're paying attention during class when you actually aren't is a perfected skill. It's not that you don't want to learn, but every now and then there's a class that just zaps all of the life out of you. Sometimes, it's the content and other times it's the professor, but regardless, you're bored and need something to do. Finding ways to keep yourself occupied until the end of the class is crucial. Here are a few ways to keep yourself busy if you find yourself zoning out.

Scroll through social media.

There's no better way to kill time than social media. You can scroll for a few minutes and hop between platforms, later realizing that an entire hour has passed. Losing your sense of time while looking through Instagram is a good way to get through your class.

Update your calendar and to-do list.

If you're feeling more productive, go ahead and update your calendar and weekly to-do list. Make sure all the due dates from all of your classes are in your planner and all the tasks week are at the forefront of your attention.

Plan your weekend.

Are there some cool events happening in your college town this weekend? Do some quick internet searching and plan out your weekend for you and your friends.

Get ahead (or catch up) on your assignments.

In high school, it seemed like there was always one person in your first-period class doing homework for their third-period class. Whether you're catching up or getting ahead on your assignments, staying on top of school work is a good way to keep yourself busy if you're losing focus in class.

Online shop.

Similar to social media, most people can mindlessly scroll through shopping websites for hours. Update your Amazon wishlist, get ahead of any birthday or holiday gift shopping, or simply treat yourself.

Doodle.

If your class doesn't allow technology, doodling is a great way to kill time while also being creative. Whether you practice your calligraphy skills or perfect your drawing skills, your professor probably won't notice you're avoiding the classwork.

Take online quizzes.

Buzzfeed quizzes and personality tests generally take five minutes each, so take a few that catch your eye. Soon enough, the class will be over and you'll have learned your enneagram type and which Disney princess you are based on your random song selections.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
