Things to Do If We Go On Strike

It's like a snow day in October...

The huge topic of conversation on campus at West Chester University over the last month and a half has been whether or not the teachers are going to go on strike. As the days dwindle down, it is becoming clearer that a strike is a serious possibility. While it's incredibly sad that our professors have to fight so hard to make a fair wage, it's also kind of exciting that we might not have class. So if classes do end up getting canceled, and you find yourself bored with nothing to do, here are some fun ways to spend our days on strike.

1. Work on completing your college bucket list

Is there something you've been dying to cross off your list, but just haven't had time? With days of no class, this is the perfect opportunity. Just channel your inner Spongebob and wear a wig while riding a Seahorse...or something else silly.

2. Drink

And by drink I mean bar hop around West Chester at noon.....Sorry mom and dad.

3. Catch up with friends

When classes, work and internships become really hectic it can become hard to find time to hangout with friends. Now's the perfect time to hangout with those friends you haven't seen in a while! Or spend even more quality time with the ones you see everyday! College would be nothing without the friends you spend it with so enjoy the extra quality time!

4. "Pizza Hop" around West Chester

Any West Chester student can tell you that people get very fired up about which pizza place is the best. Now you can spend an afternoon traveling from each pizza place and have a serious taste test. You might come to a conclusion for the most serious question in West Chester.....Chris's or Riggtown? (It's Chris's).

5. Go Shopping

Because any time off from school is a good time to spend money you don't even have, and the King of Prussia mall is only twenty five minutes away. Why not make a drive down?

6. Have a Scavenger Hunt around West Chester

Because nothing is more hilarious than gathering up your friends and having everyone do and find ridiculous things. Seriously though, scavenger hunts are so much fun and when something as crazy as a strike happens, you need to do something ridiculous. It'll also give you a chance to explore more of West Chester and see more of our beautiful town.

7. Prepare for Homecoming

It's happening whether or not we strike...so be ready for the craziness that will ensue and make sure this year is the best one yet. Just think of it this way, if we strike, homecoming weekend can just get started even earlier this year.

And if all else fails, refer back to #2. Happy striking my friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
