Whether it be because of school, family problems, dilemmas among friends, or anything similar to those categories, when tough times are around, it’s hard to function how you normally would. Emotions building up inside can cause a lot of damage to who you are as a person if no measures are being taken to make yourself feel better. Here are a few things that can be done to remind yourself that the negative energies around you are just temporary, and good days will be coming soon.

Have inspirational quotes with you at all times

Change the wallpapers on all your devices to self motivational quotes as little reminders that you are a strong person who can get through anything. We use electronics all the time, so often seeing those simple words with strong meaning can do all the difference.

Talk about your problems with people you trust

Constantly speaking of a situation can let you come to your own conclusions about it after having the input of others. Even after hearing yourself say it, you can also decide whether its even worth being upset about it or not. It may seem like you’re being a bother, but if people are really getting annoyed by you telling them about your problems, then you’re telling the wrong people. In the end, those who really listened and stuck by your side will mean the most to you.

Remember it’s okay to feel the way you are feeling

If you want to cry, then cry. If you want to scream, then scream. Whatever it is that you are feeling, except it for what it is and feel that way. If you don’t express your emotions, whether it’s in front of people or by yourself, you can only be making matters worse. Holding in all of your stress and frustrations will not only be bad for you, but for others around you. If people can tell you’re in a bad mood and you aren’t willing to admit that you’re in a bad mood by saying that you are “fine,” then people may then associate those bad vibes with who you are as a person.

Do simple things to relax your mind

Read a book, draw something, meditate, write, do whatever you need to do in order to take your mind off of whatever it is that is causing you to have negative emotions. Being upset can be tiring if you have that weighing down feeling on you all the time. Giving yourself a rest from studying or dealing with any problems is a good way to remind yourself that these feelings are just temporary.

Fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed

In the end, the most important thing to do is to face your problems. Talk to whoever you need to talk to in order to figure things out. Study your butt off and take that test. Take whatever steps you need to take in order for you to feel okay again. Do not worry about anything else but yourself. It may seem selfish, but when it comes down to it, the only person who really matters is you. It is not enough to just talk about your problems while you’re sitting doing nothing to fix them.

Finals make everyone crazy. Family and friend problems can get out of hand quickly if not handled with care. However, family is family and they will always be there for you, and the friends who are really worth while will figure things out with you. Always remember you are not alone, and someone out there is going through similar problems as you. If they can get through it, you can too.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
