8 Things you MUST bring to College!

Packing for college can be an extremely overwhelming time full of random piles, a messy bedroom, and a parent or two constantly asking if you have everything you need... and in the mix of all the commotion, sometimes we forget to pack things that are SUPER necessary!

Here's a list of random things you may want to consider bringing to college:

1. Side Loft Bed Tray:

This bedside tray is perfect for holding a phone, a glass of water, or anything else you deem necessary to have at your side through the night. Sometimes your room set up is not organized so that your desk is next to your bed, so this little tray is the perfect tool!

2. Ice cube trays:

Ice cube trays are usually forgotten, but such a necessity to have in your freezer at school. Perfect for popping some ice into your coffee in the morning before class, filling up a water bottle before heading to the gym, and girls let me tell you, very handy to have when you burn yourself on your hair curler or straightener.

3. Dish drying mat:

This may sound strange, but a dish drying mat is a random essential you must bring to school. Plop the mat in your closet or under your bed and use it to hold your shower caddy to keep the excess water from dripping all over the floor.

4. Old t-shirts, costumes and themed attire:

Do you have random Camo, Hawaiian or other themed clothing lying around your room? Maybe from a spirit day from a high school sport? Definitely pack them with you for school. Themed parties may come up at your school and these seemingly irrelevant pieces of clothing will become essentials!

5. Power strips:

You may find that power outlets are scarce in your bed room. Bring power strips to ensure you have enough outlets for all of your plugs!

6. Rubber door stopper:

A huge part of the freshman experience is getting to know new people. Start with your hall mates! You will be living with these people for the rest of the year so use a rubber door stopper to leave your door open to allow your neighbors to pop in and say hello!

7. Soda can tabs:

Use soda can tabs to maximize the storage space in your closet! Before heading to school, just go into your garage and twist all of the metal tabs off of the cans out of your recycling bin. Place the top hole of the tab on one hook and place another hook through the bottom hole of the tab to let it hang down--double your hanging space for free!!

8. Command Strips:

Command Strips are so useful when move in day comes around. Use these for hanging pictures, car keys, bags and everything in between!! There are all different sizes that can hold different weights so be sure to read the packaging.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
