As college students, we often forget to stop and think about what we are thankful for during this time of year. Of course, we are thankful for the opportunity to further our educations, but being thankful is the last thing on our minds during finals week. The thing is, we are so wrapped up in our own little bubbles that we often forget to stop and actually think about what we are thankful for. So, here are just 10 things to be thankful for:
- Getting a home cooked meal and being able to enjoy the leftovers days later. Also, getting to avoid the dining hall is always a plus.
- Having an exceptional support system complete with family and friends who are always there for you.
- Late nights in the library, because we get the chance to study material that will help us in the future. Even if we don’t understand how organic chemistry will help, at least we know it will all be worth it in the end.
- Meeting new people and getting new opportunities and experiences, because this too will help us later in life.
- Getting to become friends with our professors, because these are the adults who will be there for us when we need them the most. Always an e-mail away the night before we cram for an exam, or just a causal life chat in their office hours. They’re there for us.
- Coffee, because this is what keeps us going when times are tough, such as when we have to wake up for 8 am’s or when we pull all-nighter’s.
- Getting to see our dogs when we go home for breaks, or any dog for that matter. It doesn’t have to be our own. We are more than willing to chase them down on campus when one is spotted.
- To-do lists, because these keep us in line when we need it the most. It allows us to get overwhelmed at first, and then lets us cross things off when they’re completed.
- Late nights with friends. Whether we go out or stay in, we are making memories that will last a lifetime.
- The life we have, because we know this is just the beginning of a wild ride.
Whatever you’re thankful for this Thanksgiving, make sure you tell your loved ones how truly grateful you are for them. Happy holidays!
