5 Things I'm Tired Of Hearing As A Non-Traditional Sorority Member
Alisia Saucedo

Joining a non-traditional sorority was one of the best decisions I've ever made, but it's frustrating when I walk around wearing my letters or even talk about my org and get the confused looks. Non-traditional Greek life is the alternative to the traditional Greek houses. I love my sorority and I understand not everyone has gotten the chance to learn about my sorority, but there are just some things I'm tired of hearing being a part of a non-traditional sorority

1. "So are you guys like a club?"

No...we are not a club. Words can't explain how much this question really just frustrates me.

2. "Why is your sorority so small?"

It's not all about numbers. Sometimes the smaller the membership the closer the bond is. To us, we try to look at it as an advantage so it's frustrating when people try to make it seem like a disadvantage.

3. "So, you guys don't have a house?"

No, we don't and it would make things a lot less awkward if people would stop asking.

4. "I've never heard of that sorority."

It's fine that you've never heard of my sorority. Being that we are a non-traditional, multicultural, small sorority I would probably guess that you hadn't heard of it, but tbh it's almost making me feel like you're trying to say how irrelevant my sorority is even though that probably wasn't your intentions.

5. "What do you guys do?"

Umm the same thing other sororities do...Community service, uplift women, philanthropic work, focus on our academics, be inspiring and hardworking women...obviously.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
