Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful, and to have good food, and to get together with family. And to suffer through all that a family gathering entails. Here are just a few of my good (and not so good) expectations for that fateful day.
1. Seeing my family friends.
My family is a weird mix of relations and crazy people we've adopted, but to me they're all family.
2. Seeing my family friends.
However, sometimes you just know certain things are going to go down.
3. Good food.
Forget turkey- bring on the rice and chicken, and don't forget the tostones!
4. Fighting over good food.
No! you can't have the last piece of chorizo! And I get dibs on the flan.
5. Fun conversation.
Yes, this really happened. No, no one thought it was weird.
6. Mortifying conversation.
Please don't talk about this. No! Not that!
7. Going home.
Nothing feels better than pigging out in front of family, and just not caring. Also a real bed.
8. Being asked how school's going.
I am three weeks away from finals and feeling it. I am up to my eyeballs in work. I am handling it BUT DO NOT MENTION SCHOOL WHEN I AM TRYING TO RELAX.
9. Catching up.
Some stories can only be explained through weird gestures. And that's okay! It makes it all the more entertaining.
10. Having to tell my grandmother (and everyone else, repeatedly) that no, I don't have a boyfriend.
RA applications, honors core curriculum, upper level English classes, two (unsteady) jobs, theatre and a club, volunteering...unless a guy wants to be my cheerleader from the sidelines, I'm good. My juggling act is at its limits, thanks.
