Going to college can be stressful beyond belief, but there are things that can make the hard days become easier. With finals quickly approaching, make sure to stop and take a minute to smile at the world around you. Here are 5 things that can make USI students smile.

5. The Fountains

The fountains at USI are a sign of warmer weather and beauty across campus. When you pass the fountains, you can always be guaranteed to smile; especially if someone put in soap.

4. The Community

Whether it's welcome week, homecoming or Springfest, you can always feel the school spirit in the air.

3. Beautiful Scenery

If you are walking, jogging, riding a bike, walking to class, or riding the bus, there is always great beauty about the campus. The flowers, the lake, and the gazebo are my favorite campus beauties.

2. The Cone

The cone is another thing that can make a USI student smile. When the sunlight is hitting it just right, it's always the picture perfect scene.

1. James the Bus Driver

The number one reason to smile is because of James (the campus bus driver). He always shares a wave to everyone on campus, and takes his time to make sure you know he cares. Who knew how much a wave and a fist bump in the morning would make students smile?

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
