11 Things That Will Help You Sleep, Even If Your Insomnia Has Reached New Heights In 2020

In This Article:

If you're new to the "can't sleep at night" club, welcome. Finding a sleep routine that consistently works can be difficult for a variety of reasons — maybe your anxiety keeps you up at night, maybe you're too warm to be comfortable, or maybe you just can't stay asleep for longer amounts of time. No matter how good (or bad) of a sleeper you usually are, 2020 has thrown us enough curveballs to wake even the most peaceful individual. That doesn't mean all hope is lost — there are still some simple resources that could be the game-changer for the quality and quantity of sleep you get each night.

1. Weighted blanket

Weighted blankets have the ability to bring a sense of peace using pressure therapy. In other words, it makes you feel safe and chill out. It also gives you a little workout in the morning when you make your bed — a win-win!

2. CBD gummies

Many people give CBD nighttime gummies credit for a good sleep routine. CBD is becoming more common as a coping method for those who deal with anxiety, which is also often related to poor sleep habits.

3. Essential oil diffuser

If you're looking to turn your space into a calm, sleep-friendly oasis, scent can be a huge contributing factor. Essential oils have many different purposes, but bringing a sense of peace to a room is one of the biggest benefits. Oils such as lavender, lemon, and eucalyptus can ease tensions that your mind and body may be feeling, helping you wind down and get ready to sleep.

4. Ear plugs

You'd be surprised by how sensitive you may be to sound. Especially if you find yourself waking up multiple times in a night, do yourself a favor and block out that unnecessary noise.

5. Blue light glasses

What would be most helpful is if you stayed off your screens for a few hours before you went to sleep — but if you NEED to watch that next episode before calling it a night, blue light glasses will work in your favor. The stimulation caused by screens keeps your brain active. Blocking that harmful, addictive light can help ease that stimulation and help you wind down.

6. Sound therapy lamp

If you find yourself falling asleep best when you hear rain, ocean waves, or a fan in the distance, consider adding a sound therapy lamp to your Amazon cart. This will give you a variety of settings to choose from as you create the ideal environment for rest and relaxation.

7. Blackout curtains

You don't want a perfectly good night's sleep to be disturbed too early! Especially in the summer, when the sun rises earlier, blackout curtains will let you sleep for as long as you want to without light pouring through the window.

8. Cooling pillowcase

Being uncomfortable with temperature is a common cause of disturbed sleep. If you find that you "sleep hot," set yourself up for success with a cooling pillowcase to help you not overheat mid-slumber.

9. Air purifier

If you suffer from allergies and general irritation surrounding air quality, get an air purifier and get it fast! Making sure you're taking in clean air can greatly impact your quality of sleep.

10. Sleep tracker

Having a health watch that tracks your sleep (like the FitBit Versa 2 or an Apple Watch) will let you know how your sleeping and how often you hit a REM cycle. That may help you see where you need to make adjustments and will let you compare your sleep as you continue to make those adjustments.

11. Eye mask

There's nothing wrong with going back to basics — keep those eyes closed, no starring at the ceiling for you!

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.
