College is such a great time in your life.

It’s full of freedom, spontaneous adeventures, and doing basically whatever we feel like doing. When in college your groups of friends always include different people. You have the partiers, the nerds, the jocks, the mom friendsand the one special friend in the group the “Not the Mom Friend.”

If you’re not lucky enough to be that friend here’s what it’s like being that friend:

1. You have to text your friends your symptoms to make sure you’re not dying every time you have the slightest cough.

2. You don’t stop your friends from skipping class.

3. Your roommates usually telling you to make sure you're wearing a coat.

4. Uber is your go-to ride anywhere.

5. You’ve heard “What are you wearing?” more times than you can count.

6. 2 a.m. is a reasonable bedtime for you.

7. Any class before 11 a.m. is out of the question for you.

8. You consider Ramen noodles or mac-n-cheese bites a meal.

9. Napping is not just a luxury, it’s scheduled into your day.

10. You’re the mom friend's biggest nightmare.

11. You don’t think twice about skipping class.

12. Spending $20 at the grocery store is unreasonable to you but, $20 at McDonalds is always okay.

13. You forget about getting important things like gas for your car.

14. Tardiness is justifiable with Starbucks

15. Your laundry has been dirty for three weeks.

16. Or has been clean but sitting in a basket for two weeks.

17. You hear “don’t touch that” at least fifteen times a day.

18. The word “No” brings literal tears to your eyes.

19. Being responsible is hard for you.

20. When you actually HAVE to be the “Mom friend” you respect them a lot more because you realize dealing with 12 of you is the definition of hell.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
