For the past few years I have worked in retail for my summer job, and lemme tell you that everyday at the store is a new one. While the day brings new costumers and craziness everyday, there are somethings that get repetitive (and old FAST). Here is a list that every associate in retail goes through, feels, or thinks at one point or any other or maybe everyday.
1. After standing on your feet for hours and all you want to do is...
2. Standing there with nothing to do so you just act like you're folding clothes.
3. Folding a stack of clothes when needed or when you have really hit rock bottom of boredom.
4. When the costumer is complaining, but you're not in a position where you can do anything and they don't seem to understand so you just have to take it.
5. When your break flies by, but your shift doesn't.
6. Thinking you have worked an hour but in reality it has only been 20 minutes.
7. Re-folding that stack again.
8. Running to the back to check for a size you know that you don't have.
9. When you're about to lock up and a rush of people come bursting through the doors.
10. Seeing a costumer look at that stack of shirts and thinking to yourself: "If you touch that stack I have folded five times today you're buying the whole thing."
11. The rush you get when you look the doors and the final costumer is out.
12. How magical your bed feels after a shift.
I have gained a lot from working in retail and overall I have enjoyed my time folding the same shirt over and over again. Between the friends I have made, life experience, and most importantly work experience my summers have flown by since I picked up working. I went into working in retail thinking nothing but the best, I soon realized all of the flaws in working in a store. While there are many un-glamorous things about retail all in all it's a hard summer job to complain about. So thank you retail for giving me a bit more patience with people, and some extra cash.
