Sometimes going back home for the summer can be a drag. Yeah you are happy to spend quality time with friends and family but you don’t look forward to going back to the house rules, curfews, and chores that come with living at home. Now it is time to go back to school, and although you are happy here are a few of the things that you are most likely dreading.

Homework

After a summer of relaxation, the last thing you want is to have to do homework but that will be your reality again for the next nine months.

Exams

No one ever misses studying for exams, well in actuality cramming. We all dread this.

8 A.M.'s

So you just spent the last three months sleeping in and staying out late, going to as ay parties as you want, or even just watching Netflix all night long. Now you have to get back to a regular sleeping schedule to make it on time to your 8am class and stay awake for the whole two hours.

Cafeteria Food

Although the cafeteria food isn’t always that bad you know you are going to miss having a variety in your diet.

All nighters

We all try to avoid these but when midterms and finals role around we can’t seem to help it. And the stress that comes with it we are not excited for.

Free time and extra cash

We are going to miss having free time to do what we want. With the school year starting we have to juggle classes, extra-curricular activities, and for some of us working as well. We no longer have the extra time nor the extra money we had over summer break.

Seeing the people you don’t like

There is always at least that one person that you are always trying to avoid around campus, you had a break all summer now you have to go back to ducking and dodging.

Fighting for parking

No one is really sure the purpose of those student parking stickers anyway when you still everyday find yourself fighting for parking so you don’t have to walk blocks to get to class.

No longer having your own space

For those living on campus this is a huge downside, even if you have an awesome roommate you know that you will miss having your own room and not having to share a common area or bathroom.

Missing those home cooked meals

So you spent the summer at home and got a bit spoiled with the fridge always full and a nice home cooked meal every night, now you’ll have to wait until the holidays.

Paying for laundry

Being at home you have your own washer and dryer. You can do your laundry whenever you want for free or if you’re really lucky your mom will do it for you. Now those summer days have ended so back to stashing all the quarters you can find.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
