Instagram has been a popular social media outlet for the past six years. It allows users to edit, crop, and publish photos and videos for their friends to see. While this has been a great invention for the social media world, it has also been damaging. The bad part about Instagram today is that people are starting to compare themselves to their friends/peers based on how many "likes" they are getting. This causes a huge decrease in self-esteem if people are not receiving the amount of likes they want.
Although it is natural to get wrapped up in Instagram and social media in general, there are things that are way more important than the amount of likes you get. Some of these things are:
1. The genuine friendships you have
Good friends are hard to find. Instead of worrying how many likes you got on the selfie you posted, you should tell your friends how much you love and appreciate them. Your friends are the people who can lift you up and bring out the best version of yourself.
2. Your family
Just like your friends, your family loves and supports you no matter what. Who cares if that girl you know got 200 likes on her Instagram photo? You don't need a lot of "likes" when you know that the people in your life love you for who you are.
3. Your pets
Dogs are 10x cuter than Instagram likes. End of story.
4. Food
Why worry about your Instagram picture when you can worry about what to eat for dinner or dessert??
5. Your passions and hobbies
These will get you to where you want to be in life, not the amount of likes you got.
6. Your self-confidence and well-being
Your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. You are amazing and do not need a social media outlet to tell you so!
