So... Everyone who sings has a voice type. You can be an alto, a bass, a tenor, counter-tenor, mezzo-soprano, soprano I, soprano II, coloratura soprano, etc. Every type has something that resonates with them in their lives with their tone of voice. I have been through so many "struggles" as a coloraturist! If you can relate, LET'S BE FRIENDS.
1. YOUR NEIGHBORS THINK YOU ARE GETTING ROBBED/MURDERED WHEN IN REALITY, YOU'RE JUST PRACTICING REALLY HIGH NOTES.
-- Yes, I'm fine, ya know, just singing some Habanera.
2. THE ONLY WAY TO HIT NOTES BELOW THE STAFF IS TO BE SICK.
-- How I envy basses sometimes...
3. WHEN YOUR VOICE TEACHER TELLS YOU TO HOLD OUT THE HIGH F FOR 6 BEATS AND YOU HAVE BEEN SINGING HIGH NOTES THE ENTIRE SONG.
-- When that is over, I leave the room and take the deepest breaths because of how stuffy the room is when there's more than just one person in there!
4. YOU REALLY CAN'T HAVE ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOUR THROAT ALL PHLEGMY.
-- Sometimes, a girl just wants her chocolate, ice-cream, and soda! :(
5. When all your roles are so dramatic you start to feel emotionally overwhelmed by your fictional life.
-- When it comes to performing in front of people, I've either been given the role of a flirt with an unrequited love life or a witch. My voice teacher ALWAYS makes me think of someone "special" to sing my songs with emotion and FEEL the character I am portraying.
These things, along with many others, are parts of my everyday life! Can you relate?!
