Growing up poor had its ups and downs but it is veryeye-opening and can teach you how to save your money.

1. Generic brand food is the best food

Especially "honey nut scooters" and "Dr. Perky."

2. Having to always give the "my printer is broken" excuse

So you don't have to admit that you can't afford ink.

3. Summer was the worst season ever.

Nobody wanted to pay the AC bill so you would have to just sit and sweat all day.

4. In school, you had to be very sneaky about buying lunch

So the other kids don't know that you get free lunches from school.

5. Our clothes, food and everything we owned came from Walmart, Goodwill and The Dollar Store

6. Going out to eat when you had money was so much fun

But you'd always have to make sure you take a lot of the free bread and condiments before you leave.

7. You always knew the cable-less TV shows by heart.

8. Everyone always complained that the cafeteria food was disgusting.

But to you it was the best food you've ever eaten and you can't get enough of it.

9. You were usually always made fun of for the things you wore because they weren't in style.

10. Sometimes there was no Christmas.

11. Getting your electricity shut off was such a scary day.

12. At family events, if someone asks for us to take something home from dinner leftovers we take home almost everything.

13. You moved a lot

Because you couldn't afford the rent.

14. Never hanging out with friends

Because you never have any money to do anything so you just end up staying at home doing nothing.

15. Re-wearing clothes multiple times in the same week is a normal thing for you.

16. When times got tough, it was time to go to the food drive at your local church.

Very easy to get food for cheap.

17. Grocery shopping was so much fun when your EBT card was full.

But it gave you anxiety when going to pay for the food because you didnt want other people around you to judge you for using food stamps.

18. You've become an expert at being able to tell when your low fuel light will come on in your car.

19. You've come home to multiple eviction notices on your door.

20. Never ever bought a school yearbook.

21. Favorite dinners were dollar menu meals.

22. You're a hustler.

You can easily figure out a way to get money when you need it.

23. EBT was your best friend.

24. Who needs hotdog rolls when you have a piece of bread?

25. Every possession of yours is valuable

You didn't share with others that often.

26. You develop a taste for terrible foods.

27. Jars of change were everywhere in your house.

28. You probably weren't the coolest in school but with the love and support of your parents, you were able to get through each day.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
