10 Thing All Older Siblings Will Understand More Than They Know

In This Article:

Even if you don't have younger siblings, these things will resonate with anyone with any siblings at all. Siblings have a way of bringing out the best and worst in us, and here's why:

1. Chores are always a negotiation

"If I do this for you, you have to do this and half of that for me."

Some days you really don't feel like doing the dishes - luckily, there's at least one smaller version of you that will! You just have to pay the price...

2. Car rides...

Car rides and always an adventure with your younger sibling, especially if you drive and they don't. One day you can be jamming out the same song over and over again and the next you can sit in completely comfortable silence the whole time.

3. Events

Yeah, YOU might not be into sports, but your little sibling totally is. And when they make it to the championship game? You bet you're going to be there on the sidelines.

4. They copy you

If you're a younger sibling, there's apparently no better person to idolize than your older sibling. This scares the crap out of us, because we know we don't always make the right choices or act the right way.

5. Birthdays are weird

It's always a party no matter who's birthday it is, but its awkward when it's your sibling. With all the partying, there's absolutely no time for being silly or picking fun.

"Can't be mean to them on their birthday!"

6. Their wardrobe is basically just a time capsule

Remember that really embarrassing outfit you wore in middle school? Now you get to see bits and pieces of it on your younger sibling every week! On the other hand, your hand-me-downs will be something you both enjoy laughing about.

7. Grudges

Even if you aren't the type of person to hold a grudge, when it's your sibling you could do it for months. Or one of you says or does something stupid, laugh at each other, and it's over within a day.

8. Friend gossip

"...and then Brittany invited Sarah but not Julie, so when Sarah mentioned it to Julie, she got really mad and now we can't all play on the same part of the playground."

"Wow that's annoying."

9. Your parents hate taking you to hotels

Hotels are the maybe the one place your little sibling can convince you to run around barefoot with them, and they know it.

10. Unconditional love

No matter what happens, even if you've never talked about it out loud, you know that your sibling(s) will always be there for you.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
