As a born and raised California girl (cue Katy Perry's song) living in Pennsylvania for the last four years, I've noticed a lot of big changes about the way people live and act. Some things are totally weird to me, some totally blow my mind, and others are less noticeable. Here is a list of some things I've noticed after moving to the east coast after 18+ years in Los Angeles
1. No one says 'the' in front of highways
This might be totally weird, but in L.A. the highways are called 'The 118' 'The 101' 'The 405' etc, etc. Here, there isn't an article before the number for the highway! Its just '76' or '476' or '23'. This completely baffles me, especially the term 'The Blue Route' which I still don't know why or how that is a thing. Like it is a highway, why is it blue??
2. "Down the shore" is a totally acceptable English phrase
There are SO MANY MORE WORDS in that phrase...like "going down to the shore" but nope, it's just 'down the shore' which is so unfamiliar and I can never say it correctly. Ever.
3. No carpool lanes, ANYWHERE
In Los Angeles, most highways have the far left lane designated for carpooling (2+ people in a car). These are NO WHERE TO BE FOUND on the east coast.
4. Tolls, EVERYWHERE.
STOPPIT. I NEVER HAVE CHANGE. EVER. Why does it cost $5 to get into P.A. from N.J.??
5. Lily Pulitzer EVERYTHING
Ladies, HOW DO YOU AFFORD THIS?? Dresses are like 200+ dollars and their other things like planners and jewelry are so overpriced. I know that its super high quality, but like how do some of you have like a whole wardrobe of it? Same with Vineyard Vines stuff.
These are just a few things I've noticed since moving here! Any other west coasters totally confused by the east coast?
