The holidays are supposed to be a time of comfort and joy, but they're not always all they're cracked up to be. If you have ever been through a not-so-jolly-and-bright holiday season, here are a few experiences you probably know all too well:
1. Being bombarded with probing questions about your life by relatives.
2. Gaining weight from all that delightful food you undoubtedly end up eating, whether you try to stick to a diet or not.
3. The family drama that inevitably surfaces when your alcoholic aunt starts hitting the sauce.
4. Those stupid holiday pictures of everyone in matching sweaters that, for some godforsaken reason, people feel the need to send to everyone in their Rolodex.
5. The guilt that overwhelms you when you don't have any extra cash on you to give to the Salvation Army Santa outside the grocery store.
6. The embarrassment that consumes your every waking thought when you forget to get a gift for someone who gave you a gift.
7. When you have to lie through your teeth about liking a gift to spare someone's feelings.
8. Having to be subjected to the gut-wrenching sadness of the song "The Christmas Shoes."
9. Sitting through an entire elementary school Christmas pageant just so you can see one of your relatives perform in it for two seconds.
10. Having to actually prepare food if you're the one hosting family for the holidays.
11. Having to wear itchy holiday sweaters.
