Things I Love

Love makes my world go round.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I feel it’s necessary to share some of the things I love in my life.

I’ll start with the basics: I love Disney. Disney music, Disney movies, Disneyland, and the hundreds of Disney theories all over the internet. Besides that the movies themselves are full of various meanings and interpretations. The values of family, the ability to be confident in one’s self, and the importance of friendship. However, Disney also holds its history behind it, which like any history isn’t all perfection. Racism, colonialism and the separation between classes can always be seen in these films, but it’s what we do with the messages they send that have always mattered to me.

I love chocolate. There’s really nothing more to this, but it’s necessary to mention it. Chocolate everything. It’s incredible.

I love reading, or more importantly, I love a great story. You know the kind, the ones that you start with the mindset of only reading 1-3 chapters because there’s other things to attend to, but before you know it you’re halfway through this book and decide you just have to finish it. The stories that leave you sitting still for minutes after because the book has given you way too many emotions to deal with, and you don’t know how to express them except with various "Wow’s" and "Oh my goodness's" here and there.

I love my friends. My crazy, supportive, loud, coffee sharing friends. They’re all so amazing to me, I just don’t know how I would’ve gotten through high school without them. For the friends who I still talk to almost every day, you’re helping me get through college too. Our crazy adventures are what I will always remember. Coffee dates, football games, and movie days. I’m so glad I have you all.

I love my family. I’m so grateful for them, and every moment with them is a new memory made. I love the way we are able to be. Weirdos under the same roof. I love being the oldest (even when it isn’t the easiest), and I love being able to be there for my brother and sister as they grow and excel in school. I love our adventures, our Monterey getaways. I love being able to spend time with them.

So there we have it. Just the few of the things I love in the world. Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Take a moment and share the love.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
