Five Things To Look Forward To About The Summer At The Jersey Shore

As the school year comes to an end, its almost time for summer! The Jersey Shore for some of us is the spot we relax at all summer. For me, I call Avalon, New Jersey home for the summer. Growing up at the Jersey Shore has made my summers over the years unforgettable. Going to school in North Carolina many people think the Jersey Shore is actually like the television show, The Jersey Shore, which is far from the truth. Here are a few things every shore-goer waits all year to enjoy!

1. Beach All Day, Every Day
The best part about the summer is being able to go to the beach all day, every day! While the beaches in Avalon, Sea Isle and Stone Harbor you need a beach tag for the summer. All the beaches in Wildwood are free. All the beaches are always clean, fully equipped with lifeguards and even the Ice Cream man comes every hour to satisfy your ice cream craving.

2. Ice Cream
Speaking of ice cream, whenever anyone comes to the shore it is always a must to go get ice cream! My personal favorite is Kohr Bros, which you can find up and down the Jersey Shore, especially on all the boardwalks.

3. Boardwalks
Not every Jersey Shore town have boardwalks but all the big towns do! Seaside, Atlantic City, Ocean City and Wildwood are all the major towns that have boardwalks. The boardwalks are major attractions during the summer season. Each boardwalk is equipped with rides, water parks, restaurants, etc.

4. Breakfast Joints
Going out to breakfast at the Jersey Shore is a must. I know I wait all year to get back to Avalon to get a PEC on an everything bagel at Avalon coffee or chocolate chip pancakes at Uncle Bill's Pancake House. There is a no better hangover cure than breakfast at the Jersey Shore.

5. Happy Hour
It's 5 o'clock somewhere right? Happy Hour is huge at the Jersey Shore. Whether your in Avalon and your going to Whitebriar Happy Hour or your in Sea Isle spending your happy hour at Ocean Drive, commonly known as The OD, your always going to have a good time. I am finally 21 this summer and I can't wait to experience my first Whitebriar Happy Hour!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
