Long Islanders know best!

13 Things Only Long Islanders Would Ever Understand And Know TOO Well

I grew up on Long Island (New York) without ever realizing how lucky I was to live there and I took most of its amazing features for granted. There are so many things that non-Long Islanders will just never understand and there's a whole lot more to us than just some crazy accents.

Here's just a couple of reasons why living on Long Island is as unique as it is:

1. The bagels and pizza are out of this world.

You know that you will never taste a better “slice” or bagel anywhere else, and that’s something that you love to brag about.

2. No matter where you are, you will always be 20 minutes away from a beach.

This makes summer your favorite season of all time. All you have to do is jump in the car and you’ll be swimming in the ocean, watching the sunset or just tanning in the sun in no time!

3. You don’t go to Manhattan, you go to “The City”

Lucky for us, one of the best cities in the world is only a train stop away. NYC is our home away from home.

4. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) can literally get you anywhere

Whether it be the City or Montauk, the LIRR will take you there.

5. Billy Joel is your everything

You love his songs and probably know most of them by heart.

6. You know what Ralph’s Italian Ice is

And you count down the days until Ralph’s opens again for the summer season.

7. Anywhere off of Long Island is considered “Upstate”

8. And we live ON Long Island not IN it

9. Your fall season is full of pumpkin and apple picking “out east”

10. Roosevelt Field is your ultimate place for shopping sprees

You name it! Every single store you could ever imagine is in this mall.

11. Half and half

And no it’s not something you put in your coffee… but it is the best iced tea you have ever had… and it always comes in a large styrofoam cup from the deli.

12. Every single town has its own dinner and they are always open.

Just drive down Sunrise Highway and you will spot at least five in just 15 minutes, all open, even if it’s 3 a.m.

13. You don’t realize how much you love it until you leave it.

Whether it be going to college or like me, moving away, Long Island will always be your home. There is something about it that makes you miss it so much more than you ever thought you would. Whether it be the pizza, the 20 min drive to the beach or having the city just a train ride away, Long Island is simply like no other place in the world.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
