Some of the greatest lessons come from the transition from high school to college.

College is a big step. Not only are you specifying your studies, you are moving away from home. Granted you are only there for a couple months throughout the year, this is most likely the first time you’ll be on your own. You’re almost guaranteed to make a couple mistakes but there are always things to learn from said mistakes. Throughout my first year away at school, I learned lessons that I will take with me going into the rest of my college career and further.

The most important thing I learned is probably the same cliché all your high school teachers told you after every test they suspected weren’t studied for. You can’t simply glide through classes without studying and hope for the best. Although I’d love to believe that my natural intelligence is enough to get me through all my courses, I found that it required more than just an hour before the deadline to write a paper or twenty minutes to do my chemistry homework. Throughout high school, it was easy to skip studying for a day and still succeed or bang out a paper the night before it was due. I wish I had thought about the fact things would change so I could have formed good habits that would help me through my first year and forward.

Another thing I learned is how important it is to get involved in things on campus and to interact with people. People always say you meet your forever friends at college, so how do you expect to find them if you lock yourself in your dorm in between and after classes? My dorm building had a first-floor lounge with two pool tables and a TV. The best decision I made was to sit downstairs to work on homework the first couple of weeks. Throughout the year, I got to know some really great people within my building through a simple lounge and I met even more during classes and other activities like choir or a cappella. Pro tip: RA events aren’t lame, they are great ways to meet people and in many cases get free food because let’s face it we’re in college and we can afford some free food.

I’m sure everyone has heard this many times but college can be tough or it can be a great experience but it all depends on how you work through it. You'll learn some great lessons in your first semester and more over the full year. I learned two of the greatest lessons my freshman year of college. You should definitely get involved but do not let extracurricular activities consume your time. School work is first and foremost the most important thing.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
