4 Things I Learned From My Guy Best Friends

In This Article:

In recent years I have developed very close friendships with guys. At one point, I even had more guy friends than girl friends. I hate when people say "all guys are the same" because my friends have proved me that's not true. With girls, you kind of expect them to be there for you and you can usually rely on them if you need emotional support. However, guys are not always as expressive as girls, and they tend to show their affection in other ways.

These are some of the things I've learned from them.

Teasing you is their way of showing their love for you

Sometimes they can be annoying, and sometimes they're funny, I'll accept it. S/O to one of my friends who instead of pretending to be my boyfriend when a random guy approached me at a bar, pushed me towards him just for laughs.

Guys are also sensitive

Especially when it involves girls breaking their hearts. That breaks my heart too.

Not all guys are as clueless as we might think

They can tell if something's wrong with you.

Never settle for someone who doesn’t treat you as well as they treat you

I think they have set the standards pretty high.

Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
