20 Things I Learned By 20

I could've probably made this list way longer.

20 Things I Learned By 20

As I'm entering this new decade of life, I've done some reflecting over how far I've come in my twenty years.

Who I am now has been built by lots of change, people, and places. Throughout my life, I've transformed through different passions, developed from a timid personality, and trusted the Lord through good times and bad.

I didn't start as who I am today, and I won't end this way either, but I have lots of appreciation for the twenty years I've gotten to enjoy so far.

Here are twenty things I learned by twenty.

1. Be a friend and make friends.

2. "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." – Steve Prefontaine

3. Believe in your daydreams.

4. Coffee is liquid magic.

5. Some people are only in your life for a season, but each teaches you something.

6. Trust the process.

7. The value of life is in good relationships, good people, and love.

8. Lean into God before you lean into your own plans.

9. Express gratitude in every circumstance.

10. Growth doesn't come from being comfortable.

11. Cling to hope.

12. God will close doors in your life. Don't beg for them to re-open but appreciate waiting in the hallway between experiences.

13."Comparison is the thief of joy."

14. At the end of the day, passion will fulfill you, not money or the opinion of others.

15. What you give power to has power over you.

16. You can't control everything. Try your best, make some goals, and go with the flow.

17. Project positivity into the world, there's enough negativity.

18.Most of the things you worry about will never happen.

19. "It's never too late to be whoever you've wanted to be." – F. Scott Fitzgerald

20. The best is yet to come.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
