Most girls, and even some boys, love to play around with makeup. It’s fun, it helps with confidence, it’s expressive and it’s also really easy to mess up. This is where makeup videos come in to play. Spending hours watching videos of how to contour and blend eyeshadow is one of my favorite pastimes, and it can be quite educational if you let it be. There’s a lot of things I would never be able to do or know how to do if it hadn’t been for all the makeup gurus that you can watch on YouTube. This is why I decided to list the great things that come out of those YouTube videos.
- It teaches you how to contour: It’s not like I have mastered the whole contouring thing. However, I would look a lot worse if I tried to wing the thing without any step by step videos to watch. It’s a great way accentuate your cheek bones and jawline; however, if done wrong, it can easily turn into an umpa loompa impersonation gone wrong.
- It keeps you in the loop: It's not like the newest eyeshadow pallet is a current event or anything, but it is nice to know what the new hottest thing is. Makeup tutorials also keep you up to date on what makeup styles are in-trend and popular at the moment.
- You learn cool techniques such as sandwiching: Apparently “sandwiching” is a term used for a certain technique of applying eyeshadow. A technique that uses a term referencing food has to be something great.
- Pizza highlighter: There are various videos that teach you how to make a highlighter that looks like pizza. If that isn’t great, I’m not sure what is. A highlighter that looks like pizza and you get to make it yourself.
- There’s a DIY for basically everything: You can learn how to make your own highlighter, eyeshadow, lip gloss and face masks from YouTube videos from the makeup gurus. Some DIYS look a little more challenging and strenuous than others; however, knowing you have the option to make your own self tanner from cocoa butter is pretty cool. Even if you never do the DIYS, they’re pretty interesting to watch.
- It’s very entertaining: Challenges such as the “100 layers of foundation” don’t really teach you anything, other than it looks really bad. Yet it’s honestly fascinating to watch girls put on 100 layers on foundation and see them transform into what resembles a bronze statue.
- It can teach you how to do a lot with little: Whether you have a little bit of money to spend, or just a few makeup items with you at the moment, these YouTube videos can teach you how to make what you have work. Lip gloss or lip stick can double as a blush or bronzer, all things I wouldn’t know or think of if I didn’t have YouTube videos to help guide me through.
