11 Things KUWTK Has Taught Us

"I love when people underestimate me and then become pleasantly surprised" -Kim Kardashian

11 Things KUWTK Has Taught Us

Despite the backlash and criticism that Keeping Up With The Kardashians often receives, there are actually some pretty valuable takeaways that one can learn from watching the show if you just look beneath the surface.

1. There is no such thing as a perfect family

media.giphy.com

No matter how hard any family tries, no family is ever perfect. Nope, not even the Kardashians and they really aren't afraid to admit that. The Kardashian/Jenner family is very aware of the fact that they are not the perfect family, but I think they do a good job of embracing and owning their at-times, dysfunctional family. There are always going to be fights or disagreements, and that is perfectly normal.

2. Sometimes things don't work out and that's okay

media.giphy.com

Sometimes in life, whether it's a failed marriage/relationship or a business deal that falls through, things just don't work out. And sometimes you'll know that even when you've given something your absolute all, it still doesn't work out. We saw Kourtney and Scott's relationship did not work out (still sad about it) as well as Khloe and Lamar's marriage and although it was hard for these couples, they eventually had to come to terms that it just wasn't working anymore.

3. Don't take life (or yourself) too seriously

media.giphy.com

The Kardashian's have no problem admitting their flaws in life, but they find a way to eventually make light of it. They aren't afraid to make fun of themselves. After all, Kim did create a phone case that has a picture of her face hysterically crying on it.

4. Eat your greens

media.giphy.com

If you're an avid watcher of KUWTK, you know that in almost every episode at least one person in the family is chomping on a salad or talking about healthier food options. So needless to say, eat your greens and make healthy choices!

5. It's okay to cry

media.giphy.com

Sometimes you just have to let it all out and the Kardashian's have no problem letting a couple tears flow on camera. It's okay to cry because that means you have emotions and feelings. We are humans after all.

6. Surrogacy and motherhood are beautiful things

media.giphy.com

With Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Kylie, and now Khloe all being mothers, the role and gift of motherhood is really highlighted on the show. They show the sweet moments of motherhood as well as the not-so-sweet moments. Kim, who is now expecting her fourth child, has embraced the gift surrogacy which I think is a really beautiful thing. Kim was honest about her feelings of not being able to carry any more children due to medical risks as well as her initial fears of considering hiring a surrogate. She lets women know that it is okay to need help and that surrogacy is truly an amazing option.

7. Forgiveness is hard is a hard pill to swallow

media.giphy.com

Throughout all the seasons of KUWTK there have been many fights, and therefore, many moments of forgiveness. Forgiveness is hard especially when you feel hurt and/or betrayed which is shown through the whole Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson scandal. And although Khloe did receive a ton of backlash for staying with the NBA star, I think she is a strong woman for her decision. Forgiveness is a hard thing to do sometimes, but Khloe was able to forgive for the sake of her daughter and her new family.

8. Family is everything

media.giphy.com

The Kardashian's make it very clear how important family is. They spend holidays together and always make an effort to bring the whole family together even if that means hosting a family dinner once a week. The group also makes sure that their kids ("the cousins") spend a lot of time together. This family is all about creating memories as a family and I think we can all agree how relevant that is when taking a look at our own families.

9. Money doesn't solve everything

Although we all like to believe that having a ton of money could solve all of our problems, this isn't always the case. No matter how much money you have, there are always going to be adversities that we are faced with in our lives. This goes for the Kardashian's, too. Even with their huge houses, gorgeous clothes, amazing trips, fancy cars, and overall extravagant lifestyles, the Kardashian's have issues just like the rest of us. In fact, they have also shown us that sometimes having a lot of money puts you at higher risk for problems; such as Kim being robbed at gunpoint in Paris.

10. Stand up for what you believe in

media.giphy.com

Whether it's anxiety awareness, gun violence, personal care product regulations, prison reform, helping the homeless, or anything else that the Kardashian's have participated in, it's important to always speak up and stand up for what you believe in. No matter how much negative feedback this family thought they would receive, they have always spoken up for what was right in hopes to make a positive impact.

11. Pursue your passions

If there is one family that has done this best, it's the Kardashian's. With Kendall pursuing her modeling career, Kylee pursuing her love of makeup, and all the other business ventures this family has pursued, they have all shown us how important it is to find something you're passionate about and turn it into something great.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
