Its a beautiful thought that the children of the future will be raised by a generation of feminists. The strong women that will come out of this era will be revolutionary in fighting gender inequality, but it has to start somewhere. The misogynistic dialogue that plagues many of our world's conversation has to end at homes of young girls. I hope that if or when I find myself with a daughter, I'll remember to raise her without ideas of inequality.
1. You'll never get a husband if...
Unless she's a downright awful person, my daughter will never have to worry that her personality must be changed in order to be loved by a man.
2. That's not lady like.
If she recognizes herself as a female, then she is a lady. If she doesn't doesn't say excuse me or please and thank you, then she's just plain impolite. Her gender will not dictate if she should have more manners then a man.
3. Your bra strap is showing.
I probably paid good money for that bra, and she will not be shamed for wearing an article of clothing that half the population is wearing, too.
4. Those shorts are too short; Your shoulders are showing; etc
Her legs will not be sexualized, neither will her shoulders. If she's twelve, and you think she's too young to be wearing something, then she's too young to be sexualized.
5. Dressing and acting like that will get you in trouble.
I'll teach my daughter how to fight, but I will not teach her to hide her beauty and personality under baggy sweaters and quiet conversations because a boy wasn't taught to be respectful.
6. You throw like a girl.
Damn right she throws like a girl; she has a mean arm. Any boy that tries to touch her without consent will figure that out.
7. You're prettier when you smile.
Its probably true, but enough men will tell my daughter to smile. She doesn't need to hear it from her mother, too.
